The 2021 GMC Yukon is a large truck-based SUV that seats up to nine passengers. The Yukon’s 2021 complete redesign delivers a number of improvements. The GMC Yukon is now more than 6 inches longer than the outgoing model, and rear-seat passengers get even more leg room. According to the GMC dealership near Watsonville, there’s more space than before for passengers to stow cargo. The Yukon now has 122.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the second and third rows folded down. The Yukon’s lower load floor makes it easier to load large items in and out of the vehicle.
Customers of the Watsonville GMC dealer like the 2021 Yukon’s new independent rear suspension, which lets the SUV glide smoothly around curves and over bumpy road surfaces. An available air-ride suspension system provides four inches of ride-height adjustment. Drivers can accommodate passengers by setting a low ride height or switch to an off-road height that increases ground clearance by two inches over the standard setting.
The 2021 Yukon AT4 trim is equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that puts out 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft, connected to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Four-wheel drive is standard. The AT4 gets EPA-estimated fuel economy rated at 16 mpg city/20 mpg highway.*
Motor Trend test-drove the 2021 GMC Yukon AT4 and came away impressed by its excellent highway ride. They write: “[T]he large Yukon rode exceptionally well on the highway. ... For 2021, the Yukon is still a body-on-frame design; however, it loses the solid rear axle in favor of an independent suspension setup. This new suspension, combined with the AT4’s standard magnetic ride control dampers and optional air ride adaptive suspension, made for a very comfortable ride experience in all seats.”
Several option packages are available. The Technology package adds a surround-view parking camera system, a head-up display, and rear-cross traffic alert with pedestrian detection. The Premium Capability package comes with a limited-slip differential and the adaptive air suspension mentioned earlier. The Max Trailering package includes a trailer brake controller, a two-speed active transfer case and a heavy-duty cooling system. The AT4 Premium Plus package gets the contents of the packages listed above, plus the Rear Media and Nav package (includes navigation and a rear-seat entertainment setup), power-retractable side steps and a panoramic sunroof.
The Yukon AT4 is perfect for off-roaders. In addition to four-wheel drive, it features 20-inch wheels, an exclusive front fascia that provides a better approach angle, a two-speed active transfer case, dark gray wheels with all-terrain tires, skid plates, front tow hooks and a heavy-duty air filter. Other features that come standard include a heated steering wheel, heated outboard second-row seats, hill descent control, a power-folding third row and driver-seat memory settings. Music lovers will enjoy the nine-speaker Bose stereo system.
